Tips for New Sleep Deprived Parents
New parents know all too well that bringing a child into the world also means that sleep goes out the window. But if you can recognize what your major sleep concerns are early on, you’ll be better equipped to handle them head on. Here are the most common sleep concerns and short term ways of coping with them.
Sleeping Through the Alarm?
Try putting your alarm on the other side of the room so you are forced to get up to turn it off. Also, set your alarm for the actual time you need to wake up. Hitting the snooze button multiple times will only continuously interrupt your sleep.
Loosing Focus at Work?
Schedule your most challenging projects earlier in the morning when you are the most alert. Often your eyes will get their heaviest around mid afternoon, this is when you should attempt to tackle your least demanding tasks.
Feeling Fatigued?
If you feel groggy and lethargic in the morning after waking up and it lasts well into the afternoon, an early caffeine boost is the way to go. Try to refrain from having coffee after noon as it could effect your ability to fall asleep at bedtime.
As exhausted as you are, remember that this is only temporary and you are not alone. There are many parents all over Anchorage feeling just as tired as you. Soon you little one will be sleeping through the night and so will you.
