What Happens If You Don’t Sleep?

For me, proper sleeping is a kind of exercise that gives your body a boost and refreshment to do your daily chores. Enough sleep at night makes your body work normally. Like other activities in your daily routine, sleeping also puts some impact on your health that you can see clearly. But what happens if you don’t sleep?

The amount of activities has increased for humans these days, but the length of a day is still 24 hours. That is why most jobbers, students, or other busy peoples have started to negotiate with the time reserved for taking rest. Such a decision might allow you to have some more time to finish your work. To be honest, it can slowly push you towards death. It seems funny, but consecutive sleepless nights damage your organs.

So, how does it actually happen? To know, let’s find out the result of sleep deprivation in the further discussion below.

Your Body Becomes Less Active

It doesn’t matter if you sacrifice your sleep time for working more today. You can’t work well tomorrow when your body feels the lack of rest. Your body makes you feel sick when you push your body more than you should. Recent research says diseases like back pain, muscle sprain, and headache can occur because of sleeping less.

You can’t Think Much

Proper sleep makes your brain sharp. If you don’t let your bran rest enough, you can even fail to solve an elementary school level math. Your IQ also gets low when your brain doesn’t get the chance to be refreshed well every night.

Your Heart Fails to Pump Normally

The most common thing when a man starts to sleep less is getting blood pressure issues. Your body gets to release stress when you let yourself sleep well. A stressful mind and body can’t take the pressure you give. As a result, you become a high blood pressure patient. Apart from this, if you suffer from BP issues for many days, you can also get chronic heart diseases, or also die sooner.

You Start to Forget Everything

Sleepless nights also make you suffer from nasty things such as memory loss. You can’t remember what has happened moments ago when your brain is still sleepy and can’t focus on your surroundings. This problem can make your academic grades low or force your boss to get you fired from the job.

You Might Become Infertile

Less sleep means less fertility rate. You can’t enjoy your sex life with your partner when your body isn’t fully refreshed. Even hormones can’t grow well if you stay awake for more than the necessary time. The recent survey says that a human body can grow almost 20 percent less estrogen or testosterone hormone because of the lack of proper rest. So, restless nights not only give you a horrible sex life but also kill the power of reproduction.

You Physique Gets Ruined

No matter how much you try to keep your attractive body shape through exercises or workouts, you need to sleep more than seven hours daily for fitness. Your muscles and skins might get loosen when you stay awake a lot. Besides, to improve your physique, you need to sleep properly. Your muscles grow well when you sleep at night.

Relationship with Others also Gets Damaged

When your brain doesn’t work, or you are irritated, you can’t cooperate with other human beings. There are chances that you can misbehave without any reason. No matter how much you sleep when the sun is up, it can’t be matched with the full night rest. Psychologists say that you can easily become short-tempered if you don’t sleep well for even a week. Your ill mentality can push towards even a major crime. It is sure that continuous misbehaves create a long gap between you and your family.

Daily Diet Gets Affected

Staying awake at night damages your appetite. You can feel not to have food in the morning without any reason. Sometimes, you can feel hungry at midnight when you are awake despite having your meal properly at night. That is why your normal food consuming cycle gets broken, and you can slowly lose interest in having food. Your taste bud also becomes pale a lot because of unscheduled heavy meals.

You Have to Fight with Ageing

Obviously, you don’t look good when you have not finished your night’s sleep yet and start to do your work again. The first thing you can notice after sleeping less is dark circles under your eyes. You can surely get wrinkles when you make less sleeping a permanent habit. Your skin loses the softness and moisture when you don’t sleep well for a week. Pimples start to grow on your face. Your skin gets loosen and makes you look older than you actually are.

The Cure

Here, the only cure is sleeping properly at night. There is no other thing in this world that can keep you well despite not having the proper sleep at night. So, the only thing left for you is to change your bad habit and start sleeping at night. Also, you need to wake up only after you get the necessary rest. But it is tough for those to sleep at the correct time who have made the habit of staying awake at night. They can’t change their habit so easily. Still, they should try for weeks and develop a good habit of sleeping enough. I intend to show you how you can grow this habit at this stage of our discussion. But first, let me tell you what the necessary amount of sleep means.

Perfect Sleep Duration

At the growing stages, a human body needs to sleep around 10 hours. But infants can sleep almost 13 hours a day, which is good for their health. Doctors suggest adults to sleep 8 hours a day. But you can sleep a couple of hours more or less depending on your daily activities. Anything less than these ranges is fatal. Even an hour less than the ranges can make your body suffer in the long run.

How to Ensure the Proper Sleep

Psychologists and doctors show some common methods to follow for sleeping well. I am giving some highlights about those ways.

  • Eat your dinner two hours before the time you have decided to sleep.
  • Drink at least two glasses of water before going to bed.
  • You should try to use dim lights in your bedroom at night.
  • You need to fix the sleeping position first that can make you comfortable on the bed.
  • Most importantly, you need to use a lightweight bed frame that can make less noise on your movement at the top.
  • Your mattress should be soft but supportive to the spine and hips.
  • You can also make a habit of listening to slow and soft music while lying on the bed.
  • Turn off the internet connection of your phone when you are going to sleep.
  • Try to keep the temperature comfortable for you if you have an AC in your room.

Final Thoughts

If you don’t sleep at night, your body doesn’t get any chance to develop the immunity and metabolism that can be created when you are asleep. So, slowly and unknowingly you get closer to an unhealthy life, sometimes even death. That is why sleep must be a priority, even if you have lots of things to do. Only the proper rest helps your body to take the load you give regularly.
